My Top 7 Drills to Lower Your Scores

Improving your golf skills takes dedication, and practice drills are a fantastic way to enhance your performance on the course. Here are seven essential drills that can help refine your technique and boost your confidence: Putting Gate Drill This drill focuses on improving your alignment and stroke consistency. Set up two tees about a putter's width apart, creating a "gate" for your ball. Practice rolling putts through the gate to ensure your putter stays square at impact and your stroke remains straight.  Anti-Hosel Drill Designed to eliminate the dreaded "hosel rocket," this drill helps you develop a more consistent swing path. Place a headcover or object just outside the ball's position. Focus on making a smooth swing without hitting the object, promoting an inside-out swing path. Pause Drill The Pause Drill encourages better rhythm and timing in your swing. Take your normal stance, but when you reach the top of your backswing, pause for a moment before ...

Is Club Car still the Rolls Royce of Golf Carts?

While Club Car golf carts have long been a staple on golf courses and in residential communities, it’s time to address the elephant in the room: these carts can be a major headache. Sure, they look sleek and are often seen zipping around the fairways, but behind that polished exterior lies a host of issues that can turn the joy of golf into a frustrating experience. First and foremost, let’s talk about reliability. Club Car carts are supposed to be notorious for their lack of problems. But yet as we have these new club car carts, I am not seeing that being the case. Every day I have golf carts that don’t move and I have to pull fuses and put them back to get them to move. Why this works I still do not know, but I know it shouldn’t happen and they haven’t come up with a fix yet. Then there's the issue of comfort. Many users have reported that the seating can be quite uncomfortable, and this is because the carts are literally coming apart There are many bolts and screws on these...

What happened to Etiquette?

It’s high time we face the music: golf etiquette is on life support, and I’m here to sound the alarm! Once a game of respect and tradition, the golf course is now plagued by laziness and a complete disregard for the traditions that make this sport great. First up: pitch marks. Is it really that hard to repair your divots? I can’t count how many times I’ve encountered greens that look like a battlefield. These little indents affect not only the aesthetics of the course but also the quality of play for everyone. It’s infuriating to watch fellow golfers stroll away from their marks, leaving others to deal with their mess. Fix your pitch marks, people! It’s the least you can do and also so satisfying to fix. Next, let’s talk about the dress code. Remember when wearing nice shorts and a collared shirt was the standard? Now it seems like anything goes! Ripped jeans and T-shirts are taking over, and it’s downright disrespectful to the game. I quite literally saw somebody shirtess golfing...

Predictions for the Upcoming Presidents Cup: Who Will Take Home the Trophy?

As we gear up for the upcoming Presidents Cup, excitement is building among golf enthusiasts. Scheduled to take place at the picturesque Royal Montreal Golf Club, this year's event promises to deliver thrilling matchups between Team USA and the International Team. With the tournament starting, here are some predictions that could shape the outcomes. First, Team USA is loaded with talent. Players like Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Cantlay are coming off strong seasons and have a proven track record in match play. Their ability to perform under pressure makes them formidable opponents. Moreover, the depth of the American roster is impressive, giving captain Zach Johnson plenty of options for strategic pairings. On the other hand, the International Team, led by a passionate captain, has its own strengths. Players like Sungjae Im and Hideki Matsuyama have been in excellent form and are eager to prove their worth against the Americans. If they can harness the home-field advantage and u...

Callaway Apex CB Iron Set Review!

Recently, I had the opportunity to test the Callaway Apex CB iron set during a round of golf, and I was excited to see how they performed compared to my old Apex Pro irons. Designed for a more serious golfer who want some forgiveness with a side of precision, these irons feature a forged design that promises exceptional feel and control. Right from the first swing, the Apex CB irons impressed me with their solid construction. The moment I struck the ball, I could feel the clubs were much more forgiving than I anticipated. The 360 Face Cup technology helped increase ball speed across the face, and helped on mishits, as they felt very similar to my old Apex Pros. One of the standout features of the Apex CB irons is their impressive forgiveness. As someone who occasionally struggles with consistency, I appreciated how these clubs offered a larger sweet spot without sacrificing workability. The clubs felt balanced in my hands, which contributed to my confidence on approach shots. I fou...

Shrink the Game?

Golf is in a unique spot, and a lot of people are up in the air on what should happen next. 5 years ago, the game was dying, courses were closing, and golf was becoming more and more of a white-collar activity. Fast forward to the Covid pandemic, and golf is one of the few activities that you can do while still being six feet apart. Like a shot of adrenaline in the arm, golf was back, and golf courses were doubling the number of rounds played. Many would argue that Covid saved golf and I will be first in line to agree with this statement. Growing the game was always the big push, whether it be to just play nine, bring your spouse or kids along, join a league, or one of the other many large pushes to get more into the game. We no longer see these ads and pushes, as golf courses are full now.      The golfers who played prior to covid had it made, and they didn’t even know it at the time. Empty courses, nobody to bother you or disrupt your round...

How to Make Golf Tournament Season Run Smoothly

Golf season in the Midwest is in full force. We see golf outing after golf outing all summer long, only to be followed by high school season in the fall where afternoon tee times are always taken. As the tournament manager at our club, it is important that we keep all these events in order so that nothing gets double booked, and everybody gets what they are looking for out of their event. Although there are many ways to achieve this, here is how we have found to work best and how you can do this too.       First is to keep and excel calendar that has all the events of the club for the year, or a master calendar as we like to call it. Keeping this to reference each month allows you to quickly see what events are coming up. We also like to add the contact info for these events into the calendar too. This makes it easier to reach out and ensures we don’t lose it in between when the outing was booked and the outing itself.      After cr...

A Little Bit About MindoverGolf

Hello there, MindoverGolf here, and I'm here to tell you a little bit about myself. I'm currently an assistant golf professional at a public golf course who is still completely in love with the game, and I am obsessed with learning more and more about both the business side of golf as well as the playing side of the game. I started playing this silly little game around age 11 and I've never looked back. Now that I am older, I see all of the opportunities and lessons that I missed growing up and continue to see them every day at work. My goal is to bring these opportunities out in the open for all to see and learn from, so that not only are our golf games a little better, but our lives in general get a little better too.       There are so many lessons that I have learned from this game that I have been able to apply in my personal life that it would be a shame and a disgrace to not share these things with the others that love this game as much as ...
